Andrew listened to Maria Balshaw’s Desert Island Discs recently.  Did you catch it?  ‘What a breath of fresh air’, he said, sounding relieved, when we chatted about it.  We all 💗 Maria Jane Balshaw CBE!

Maria is the first female director of Tate and was previously Director of Whitworth, University of Manchester and also Manchester City Galleries.  Until May 2017, she was Director of Culture for Manchester City Council, alongside her role at the Whitworth.  She also serves on the National Council of Arts Council England.

Listen here to Maria’s Desert Island Discs .. it’s a real treat!

He’s also been watching ‘A Suitable Boy’ on the BBC, based on Vikram Seth’s novel – a coming of age story, following student Lata, torn between her family duty and the promise of romance, as three very different men try to win her heart …

Andrew has been reading Paul Gallico’s The Snow Goose recently, recommended by his sister Janet.  “It’s very simple writing”, says Andrew “.. beautifully written, a very short book, you could read it in an hour!”.  He’s also reading The Snow Geese by William Fiennes which he thoroughly recommends too.
